This document lists and displays the colors supported by Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.0.
You can specify colors in two ways—by using a color name, or by using numbers to denote a red-green-blue (RGB) color value.

Note These colors might not be compatible with other browsers.
An RGB color value consists of three two-digit hexadecimal numbers, with each number specifying the intensity of the corresponding color. For example, the color value #FF0000 is red because the red number is set to its highest value, FF (255 in the decimal, or base 10, system). Green and blue are set to zero. Similarly, #00FF00 is green and #0000FF is blue. The pound sign (#) is optional. In the following example, the HTML code displays a red horizontal rule.
<HR COLOR="#FF0000">
Although RGB color values theoretically allow for many thousands of colors, the actual number of colors available for your HTML document depends on the color capabilities of the devices the document will be viewed on. Many personal computers can display only 16 colors due to the type of video display adapter they use. Always choose colors carefully and, whenever possible, test your color choices on a variety of computers.
Character sets determine how the bytes that represent the text of your HTML document are translated to readable characters. Microsoft® Internet Explorer interprets the bytes in your document according to the applied character set translations. It interprets numeric character references ("〹") as ISO10646 code points, consistent with the Unicode Standard, version 2.0, and independent of the chosen character set. Named entities ("&") are displayed independently of the chosen character set as well. The display of an arbitrary numeric character reference requires the existence of a font that is able to display that particular character on the user's system.
The following table contains the complete ISO Latin-1 character set, corresponding to the first 256 entries of the Unicode character repertoire in Internet Explorer 4.0. The table describes each character, its decimal code, and its named entity reference for HTML, and also provides a brief description.
